"Germ Tag"

We have been talking about germs and how we can keep from spreading germs by washing our hands.  We even did an experiment with "germ lotion".  We had a few students put a special lotion on their hands, and we looked at it under a black light.  The lotion represented germs.  Then we had those students go wash their hands and then put their hands back under the black light.  Most of the germs were washed away.  Then we played germ tag to help us remember that when we have been around sick people we should wash our hands and sing the "ABC Song"!

Climbing wall

We began our climbing wall unit this week, and the kids are having a blast!  Please be sure and send them in tennis shoes on their PE days so they participate fully and safely!

We are excited about PE!

Things have started smoothly this year!  So far we have learned and reviewed personal space, locomotor skills, and non-locomotor skills.  Can you believe your children can explain these terms??!  I can, because  they are so smart and so much fun to have in PE!
We have just started a unit on soccer skills.  We talked about all the different ways to kick a ball and the importance of keeping the ball close when you dribble.  We practiced foot-dribbling while we avoided knocking over obstacles (another big word our PE students know) and tried to control the soccer ball.  I think you will be pleasantly surprised if you ask your kids to tell you the meaning of these big words!!

New School Year!

The time is getting close!  We are getting ready to start school year 2013-14 in just a few short days.  Be watching this blog for what is happening in PE.  We will have a new teacher with us!  Mrs. Little is teaching at Colham Ferry Elementary School and Ms. Debbie Hargrave will be in our gym with me this year.  We are both looking forward to seeing you soon!

Field Day 2013

We started out under a ceiling of fog, but it was just enough to keep us cool all morning!  Field day was an absolute success this year thanks to parent volunteers, teachers, students, and community businesses.  

A big thanks to OCMS 7th grade Beta Club members for escorting classes through field day, as well.  Please express thanks to our local businesses for making field day even more fun.

Grand Rental Station in Watkinsville donated our 2 bouncy houses in the gym, and

Dairy Queen donated Dilly Bars for every student and teacher in our building.  Please click the

Field day was a great start to our summer!
